PARTICULAR WONDER

Sue O’Donnell. 14.09.20

Enjoy a late holiday at the sea.

What a lot to do there still will be!

Swimming, sailing, canoeing, surfing too,

Surging high waves to be cutting a way through!

Cave, cove, cliff exploring, beach combing and fishing.

Seek to release a boat from its mooring.

A cliff with steps invites you to go climbing,

But be cautious as too, you are ascending.

Like a bird you can feel as delightfully free,

As you soar the cliff line by the sea.

Coming back down to enjoy the shore,

The seaside has plenty to offer, even more.

Have you thought of the reflection of William Blake

When a wise observation the poet did make,

Suggesting we can see a world in a grain of sand

For here you hold creation in Your hand,

The gift of our Father, steadfast lovingly kind,

The further you look, the more you find.

For faith is made up of an exciting adventure,

As into God’s mystery you decide to venture.

The way you must in understanding go,

Is the friendship of Jesus to seek and know.

For as the renown author describes poetically

In the palm of your hand you are holding infinity.

The world the Creator made with the Lord Jesus,

Both together with their Spirit of holiness,

Is a vast expanse of particular wonder,

Of marvels and beauty we are drawn to ponder.

Was this grain of sand there since the start of time?

We know all the Lord God creates is so fine.

To hold eternity in an hour,

Is as simple as to gaze into the face of a flower.

To revel in the magnificence of colour, stature and texture,

Praising the work of the world’s loving Creator,

Is as God laboured, He pronounced all things good,

Surely then we too, offer praise, always should?

Lord, for all the experiences in life which make us wonder at Your magnificence, Your authority and Your glory, we praise and thank You. Amen.
